Thank you very much for your email. I regret to inform you that your answers are not satisfactory, thus my position is not changed: I will not sign the documents needed, Panna will not participate.

To be more specific:
1: web based broadcast is not acceptable as direct contact. The location of the event is very far, hardly accessible by car in case of any need.
2: the answer is not satisfactory. How many assistants will be with the class teacher, what are their names, what are their professional qualities - nothing specific answer was given. Thus I hold my opinion: I will never trust unknown people who most probably can not speak with my child.
3: As regarding the statement "to let pupils learn about new environment within the European Union and open their mind for the European dimension" I can not make the connection to a trip to Switzerland, which is - as far as I know - not even a Member State of the European Union.
4: I am not willing to argue about the constituents of the curriculum (without knowing its exact contents) but I am very sure that "snow" can be found closer to Brussels during winter months (in the Ardennes for example) and I am not convinced at all that only that far location is the only possible solution.

So, in the summary I still do not want to let my daughter to go that far without the possibility of direct and unlimited communication, supervised by unknown, foreign people. I regret to remind you that the European School had proven itself to be a lazy organizer of events - just to mention the organization of the last parents evening when the invitation said entrance will be from Av. Vert Chasseur but that time - as you have written - "This particularly mail send to parents informing the parents evening arrangement did not reach the responsible of the guards". But then again, yesterday the guard just closed the OPSTAL gate at 16:00 in contradiction to the security note issued by Mr. Kivinen on 06 NOV 2009, which clearly states that the OPSTAL gate is opened from 15:45 till 16:15 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays. Fridays.

Should you feel the intention to reply, please be as kind as to send all referenced documents / information sources as attachments.

Yours sincerely,

Attila Osztrogonacz

Dear Madame Nordström,

As I was informed by the class teacher (Mr. HORVATH) and the class representatives I would like to notify you that I will not allow my daughter to participate in the snow classes in Switzerland due to the following reasons:

- Ten days are too long to be without direct contact with the child who will be too far away. Last year the children were in contact with the parents each day by the schools web site. This year we continue the broadcast.

- I do not like relinquishing total control over the child to persons unknown who will have difficulties communicating with the child who speaks no French. All classes are accompanied by there class teacher with help from qualified assistants by the CPAN speaking there language.

- We do not consider it important that our child learn winter sports as winter sports have no tradition in our family at all. In the document approved by the Board of Governors they stipulate the importance to let pupils learn about new environment within the European Union and open their mind for the European dimension.  In the curriculum decided by Board of Governors Snow classes represent a big part of the curriculum of DDM.

- My daughter is too young to ski without direct parental involvement. Teachers-monitors could not possibly devote enough attention to all children to ensure that they are properly clad, etc. The children are divided in small groups depending of there capacities to ski.

- My daughter does not wish to go, and we do not want to change her mind, beeing in agreement with the objections raised by other parents. I wish to draw your attention on that Snow classes is part of your daughters curriculum in the European School.

Thank you for your kind understanding.

Very best regards,

Attila Osztrogonacz
